![]() Isn't even really a jeep engine or trans, it's made by Mercedes. V6 WK grand Cherokees litter junk yards for this exact reason. My family collectively currently owns 5 jeeps, the only major repair before we expected was the infamous 3.7 V6 in our '09 Grand Cherokee dropped a valve so we had to put a motor in it at only 80k miles. The minute you mod anything mechanical, bigger tires, lift kit etc, expect parts to wear out quicker. I just ordered myself a hoist to take the top off this spring, and I only miss it more because I don't have it with me. The problems I had were minimal (start/stop stopped working, the passenger seat clicks when the vehicle is in motion), and the Jeep is just. So far so good! Does that make me regret it? Not at all! I love this Jeep. I did have other issues, which I mentioned to the dealer, and they ordered all necessary parts, and are taking care of it. I never experienced the death wobble though. I got a recall for the steering damper so I took it in. my Jeep is actually at the dealership right now. It's better than the Tacoma was in every way, and even my mileage is substantially better (and I have bigger tires now!).Ī year later, what can I say? Well. I ordered my JL, and I just can't get enough of it. "Get ready to see the check engine light!" I'd hear. But I hesitated for the same reason you mentioned-I was coming from one of the trucks with the best reputation (but the worst mileage) into a vehicle that seemed super cool, but I had heard here and there that it wasn't nearly as reliable. Over the course of the next year, the JL came out, and I just fell in love with it. That's around the time rumors of a revised wrangler started coming out. Then my dad bought a used YJ and I got the Jeep bug. Great truck, never gave me any trouble, and I always told myself if I got a new vehicle I'd get another Tacoma. My second Tacoma was the vehicle I had for the longest time-eight years, and it was also my first vehicle that I purchased new. My first Tacoma was also used (and salvaged), but I took care of it and it never gave me any trouble. I didn't really take care of it, but man, was that a reliable little truck. The Ranger was used, and my first vehicle. Before that I had a Ford Ranger in the late '90s-early 2000s, then two Tacomas. I've had my 2019 JL for a year and a month now. I'm gonna throw in my story here, since I was in a very similar place as you a little over a year ago.
